As the ovaries gradually produce less oestrogen and progesterone, periods stop and the body enters a new hormonal phase. These changes can lead to hot flushes, mood swings, sleep disturbances, vaginal dryness, and changes in bone and heart health.

Why does this happen?

Perimenopause can have a huge impact on your mental health not just your periods.

As hormone levels fluctuate, they affect the brain chemicals that help regulate mood, sleep and stress. That’s why anxiety can suddenly appear, even if you’ve never struggled with it before.

You might notice your heart racing, lying awake at 3am with a busy mind, feeling overwhelmed by everyday things, or living with a constant sense that something isn’t quite right.

The good news? There’s a reason you’re feeling this way, and there are ways to help. You don’t have to just “push through” it or accept that this is your new normal.

These videos are designed to support women in making informed contraceptive choices while also hopefully serving as a valuable educational resource for fellow healthcare professionals.
